All new posts/topics will be at ‘ cmelody.co.uk ‘

Filed under: Uncategorized — alan @ 12:34 pm

The blog/website has a new final resting place, cmelody.co.uk - all future posts/topics will be there (as from 11th September 2008).  This blog will just be kept open until I’m sure everything has been moved across, the old posts/topics are already there, so please post any future responses there  I’ll be tidying up, and moving the last odd stray comment across, over the next week, but all the action will be there now.  I’m not moving again in the foreseeable future…

If you have a login here, I’ll be moving those, and will email each subscriber with a new password - which can be changed on the new site.  It is not necessary to have an account to comment, and comments are shown instantly.  It’s pretty much functionally the same as this blog, look for ‘Home‘ and ‘Login‘ buttons, the ‘Recent Comments’ list is to the right, and links to the static pages (including a review of the new Aquilasax C ) are along the top of the screen.  There are (as here) buttons/links on the blog, to take you to other sections of the website.

If you have RSS feeds to this blog, here are the new links -

Posts - http://cmelodysax.co.uk/blog/feed

Comments - http://cmelodysax.co.uk/blog/comments/feed

The actual url to the new blog is http://cmelodysax.co.uk/blog - but I’ve set up redirects so that just typing/pasting  cmelody.co.uk  or  c-melody.co.uk  into your browser should find the page.  Should you not wish to partake of the blogging, which may also include interesting but possibly non-musical posts, you can always bookmark the main C Archive page - which is where it has always been, at http://www.cmelodysax.co.uk/cmelody-submenu.htm  - and go directly there.

It’ll make life much easier for me, being on a standard ‘template’, which can be upgraded/changed at the click of a button - as opposed to this existing ‘cblog’ which was a very time-consuming programming exercise (an endless learning curve…), when I’d rather have been making musical sounds, or fixing up my huge pile of patiently waiting projects.  Of course all the normal Archive, Gallery, Personal, and For Sale pages remain where they were, it’s just a ‘front page’ change.

Hope you enjoy, If you spot anything I’ve missed, please email me.

Alan

Blues? It’s only three chords, so what’s the problem?

Filed under: lewis' postings, other saxes — lewis @ 11:00 am

Check out Dan Higgins' biography on Gio Washington-Wright's Top Los Angeles Studio Musicians Tribute Site - picture courtesy of that site.We have all heard this remark, and, if you are a rhythm guitarist, it is a valid statement.

I would ask these people to listen to what can be achieved, by listening to the following 12 bar slow blues clip of Dan Higgins (…..yes, him again! ). To me it is a celebration of what can be done with the tenor - THIS is what I mean about the tenor in it’s natural element .

Just click here to hear twelve bars of pure perfection…

PS. Can anyone tell me how he achieves that rising effect on the first three beats of the third bar? I am assuming that it involves much flailing about on the high E side key.

(re-positioned to current date - both as a test, prompted by a request from Lewis, and because it’s a lovely sound to listen to ! Thanks again Dan, you do make it sound sooooo easy… )

Review of the Aquilasax C Tenor (2008)

Filed under: Aquilasax, c saxophones — alan @ 4:29 pm

Just a quick ‘heads up’ that I’m doing a review of my recently arrived Aquilasax C Tenor, over the next few weeks. Looks (and plays) very promising !

Here’s the link - to the page (press the ‘Home button’ to get back to the normal blog ‘front page’ after you’ve finished viewing it) or you can click on the ‘ Aquilasax C - 2008 ‘ entry in the ‘ Pages: ‘ section in the sidebar.

Worth checking back often, it’ll be building slowly but surely… I’ll probably add a comment any time I make any major changes, so it show up in  ‘ Recent Comments ‘ - and will update any rss comments feed, if you’ve subscribed.

As there is a possibility that I’ll revert back to this blog, I’d like to use the magic of slide.com - does it work here ?

Chip Shelton - the first modern commercial C-Soprano player ?

A week back, I think prompted by a comment on a forum about his C-Mel playing, I seem to have found what I suspect is the only current commercial C-Soprano player - have a listen to the “Shadow of Lo” clip on this Amazon page

He’s called Chip Shelton, certainly looks like C-Sop and C-Mel in the picture - makes sense, as he normally plays ‘C’ flute - check out the website - I’ve heard him playing flute before (great player) but I suspect that C-Melody and C-Soprano are a new’ish venture ?

I’m having problems contacting him to confirm details, but from the picture (click on it for a bigger one) it certainly looks like C-Mel and C-Sop, and the short Amazon sound samples seem to confirm it - maybe I’ll just have to buy the tracks… Anyone know anything ?

Interestingly, notice the angled flute head - he’s a ‘vertical’ flute player as well !

This does seem to confirm it, a review of the Imbued With Memories album.
